Book Sneeze Review

I read Beautiful Things Happen When A Woman Trusts God by Sheila Walsh. I was quite interested in the beginning, however I lost interest towards the end for a couple of different reasons. The book starts out by telling the authors story of being in a Psychiatric ward to help cope with depression. I really had hoped that the book would end with an awe-inspiring concept to help women with depression. I guess I set my expectations too high. The author uses different individuals from the Holy Bible to illustrate what she has learned through her experiences with depression. I enjoyed her life stories, but had an extremely hard time with the Bible stories. Not that I do not believe in the Bible; rather, I believe the Bible to be true as far as it is translated correctly. I have a problem with people saying they believe in the Bible, but they can’t seem to pick one translation to rely on…It seems to just be whichever version suits them at the time. I felt like the book just ended. And this is where I think I had too high of expectations. I was looking for something that tied the story about depression with the characters in the Bible and I did not find it in this book. I think that the author did a great job in the actual writing and layout of her book, but it just lacked that little extra that I was looking for…

I'm Back...

After some technical difficulties, I'm back! It is crazy how dependent I am on my computer. When it's down so am I!! I know it's a little sad, but it makes me happy.

Another frugal tip...my mom did this...I cut my dryer sheets in half so that my box of 80 becomes 160. A half-sheet does just as good of a job as a whole!

On a side note, did you ever read the book, "How to Eat Fried Worms"? I loved it as a kid. If you haven't already seen the movie produced in 2006...You so need to. It is so stinking cute...a lot of disgusting though. I tried to cook dinner after watching it only to find I had no appetite!

Book Sneeze

I am posting my first review for Book Sneeze.

I read "Buried Alive: The True Story of Kidnapping, Captivity, and a Dramatic Rescue" by Roy Hallums. I was a little worried about how graphic this book would be before I started. I would not want to in any way lessen the horrific events that Mr Hallums survived, but I appreciated that the book was not written in a demeaning manner. I really liked how Mr Hallums presented his story from both his view and the view's of his family back home. This really made the story a lot more heart-touching. The story begins with an innocent man in the wrong place at the wrong time, and ends 311 days later after being bindfolded, beaten, and held captive in an underground room. With minimal food or provisions, Mr Hallums tells of his experience with a matter-of-factness that is chilling. I could sense the anticipation and relief on the day of his heroic rescue. I cried out loud during the rescue, and, later, during the family reunion, when the daughter who had fought long and hard to not let America forget her father, was the first one that he saw when getting of the plane. I think that anyone not supporting US involvemet in the war should absolutely read this book and others like it.

Book Sneeze

I just finished my first book from BookSneeze.com, a website that sends you free books to read and review. I read Buried Alive: The True Story of Kidnapping, Captivity, and a Dramatic Rescue by Roy Hallums. I loved it! I am getting ready to post my first review and can't wait to get my next book.

Preparedness...

...I am using my couponing addiction to build my family's food/home storage. This is something that I feel very strongly about. I hope to add a few posts now and then specific to preparedness. To start out...here is a great starter sample (I'm not sure what is included). But, one of my favorite sayings is: If you start now you won't have to work as hard to keep up! Tip #1: Water Storage
Instead of throwing out your used detergent/bleach bottles, fill them with water and store in a seperate location from your drinking water. This water can be used for cleaning or flushing toilets in case of a power outage...Thanks Susan.

A note about rebates...yes, you do have to pay first. But, I think they are more than worth the time. I especially like the Rite-Aid Single Check Rebates because you just enter your receipt info online and they send you a check.

My hope with this blog is to inspire someone else to be able to cut back on spending. Our family goal is to become debt free and purchase a travel trailer (one of our favorite activities). With the money that I am able to save with coupons and rebates, I think we can do this rather quickly!!!
